Gremlins

I definitely saw this as a kid, but it simply wasn’t reviewed yet.

When a husband and dad(who invents humane gadgets but they need quality control) buys a mysterious small creature on Christmas Eve from a Chinese shop and gifts it towards his son, the three rules of supporting Gizmo the Mogwai are soon broken through unfortunate circumstances, and because of that, it multiplies and brews evil versions of it nicknamed gremlins.

Gremlins is about stopping these mischievous and malicious gremlins from causing havoc and killing people, while Gizmo and the son Billy make up for a cute and cool duo. It’s a horror comedy which balances light and dark moods of cinematography, plot and acting well and it’s without a doubt one of the most memorable movies of the 80’s. It also feels very cozy with a Christmas setting.

Rating: 7.5

I definitely saw this as well as a kid, but somehow had not reviewed it yet.

Having moved to New York City after the Kingston Falls complete pandemonium in Gremlins (1984), the young couple of Billy and Kate now works for the money-grubbing tech-mogul, Daniel Clamp, in his colossal Clamp Tower high-rise.

But, before long, Gizmo, the orphaned Mogwai, falls prey to the evil scientist, Doctor Catheter, and once more, a splash of water spawns hordes of the mischievous Gremlins that immediately start doing what they do best: wreaking havoc. Is there an escape from the onslaught of the new batch?

Definitely a more comedic approach and not as well directed, The New Batch would be the end for a long time, until recently, it has been announced that Gremlin: Secrets of the Mogwai will be released in 2021 as a prequel series.

Rating: 6.0
