Mortal Kombat X

The tenth edition of this franchise already!

After the reboot of Mortal Kombat(20011), also known as part 9, the overall timeline and the lore have been reset and mixed up, allowing for more plots to happen. I always felt that the overall story line of this series is more interesting than the majority of fighting games.

Mortal Kombat X(L)continues the previous arc where Shao Kahn is defeated, and during this prologue, Shinnok is as well. The direction goes 20+ years into the future, and now children of several fighters have arrived to kombat with mortality as well, who were in my opinion not a good decision.

What did contribute and made this version stand out more, is the inclusion of guest characters from horror media. The world of Mortal Kombat with all it's fatalities and demonic creatures sits just fine with the likes of Jason Voorhees, Alien, Predator and Leatherface.

X-ray moves return, detailing graphical and painful depictions of bones and organs breaking or rupturing, and of course the fatalities are intact, which are a staple. A story, versus, endurance and online mode are also as expected included.

The other newcomers include a blood god replacing Shao Kahn, a duo, an insectoid, an archer and a gunfighter, which all aren't that impressive, but perhaps it's a matter of time. Kombat or gameplay itself is familiar, faithful and from what I've seen, balanced.

Mortal Kombat X(L) is the continuation of a new start, and it has been 3 years already. It's still going strong and remains relevant. I'm sure that NetherRealm Studios and Ed Boon will cook up another entry, sooner or later!
