Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon

A pleasant surprise for me, and Inti Creates never fails to deliver on nostalgia, gameplay and content.

As an 8 bit prequel to the upcoming Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Curse of the Moon is a spiritual successor towards Castlevania, and it is heavily inspired most of all by part 3 or Dracula’s Curse on the NES.

Featuring multiple playable characters, routes, modes and endings, it’s a challenging old school 2D action platformer with identical gameplay towards Castlevania including sub weapons, items hidden behind walls, the gothic theme and bestiary.

Zangetsu wields a katana and is your first selection as an exorcist swordsman. Miriam is the protagonist of Ritual of the Night and is playable here too. Alfred is an alchemist with spells up his sleeve, and Gebel is pretty much similar to Alucard.

With up to 6 different endings available, as well as 9 stages in overall, replayability is present. It's an 8 bit soundtrack done by veteran composers Michiru Yamane and Ippo Yamada, and the tracks are best noticed when accompanied by the various stages.

It’s a must play for fans of the Castlevania NES trilogy, and anyone looking for a challenge. Curse of the Moon is a celebration and a good warm up towards the main project. Konami, are you taking notice, like Capcom is doing?
