Batman: The Long Halloween

I've finally decided to delve into the world of comics.

I'm so late to this party.

Why not start the occasion by making a connection towards the upcoming holiday?

That's right, Batman: The Long Halloween is the first comic I have selected to read, and it's true what people say; it's an incredible story.

Batman works with Jim Gordon and Harvey Dent as a pact together to investigate and stop the mysterious serial killings of one nicknamed "Holiday" as the person tends to murder on holidays such as Independence Day, Christmas and Father's Day.

While doing so, the most powerful criminal families of Gotham City, Maroni and Falcone, wage war and hold influence, but unfortunately almost all of Holiday's victims are related to mob boss Carmine Falcone's family.

Along the way, Selina Kyle plays friend or foe as Bruce Wayne is doing detective work, question Calender Man's advice and occasionally fight against former rogues such as The Joker and The Scarecrow.

It also details the origins and metamorphosis of Harvey Dent, who turns into Two-Face near the end and "does what needs to be done". As my favorite Batman villain, this incarnation is great as he concludes after the homicidal events that the judicial system literally and figuratively can be used both ways, hence his insanity of dualism.

The Long Halloween is an excellent start towards comics and Batman in general, and features a dark mood, an immersive art style and a nice plot twist towards the Holiday serial killings that take place chronologically for one year.
