Upgrade

This is yet another example that with a good plot, screenplay, acting and direction, combined with a low budget, you can make an incredible movie. This is an upgrade not only in the sense of the synopsis, but for moviegoers too, as technology seen here seems nearby.

Upgrade is a sci-fi action body horror directed by Leigh Whannell known for his collaboration with James Wan on Saw and Insidious previously. The directing and acting combined with the impressive technology implanted and seen is a stellar viewing experience, as the action, gore and science fiction all deliver together.

As Grey Trace becomes a quadriplegic and loses the love of his life because of violent thugs abusing technology, he accepts the controversial offer from tech innovator Eron Keen to go on a brutal revenge spree using an experimental new computer chip implant called STEM.

Ironically, before this, Grey was a technophobe. But now with this Upgrade which seems to have artificial intelligence, his life changes completely, once more. The soundtrack kept me watching, and I loved the palm implanted guns seen, the nanotechnology, the creative kills and the inhuman strength Grey shows.

With a pretty fun twist at the end too making the story come full circle, Upgrade gave me an adrenaline rush, has the right amount of viewing length, is excitingly filmed and the horrific science fiction seen here is astonishing.
