Capital Punishment

I used to be a proponent, condemning serial killers, war crimes and the most gruesome acts with this act of punishment.

Now I'm not so sure anymore. Does an eye for an eye, or numerous eyes, really work out for humanity in the end? It's a controversial punishment, of which prison for life punishment also remains a hotly debated one, and people wonder which one's worse.

Over the course of history, the death penalty has been issued widely and with variety as to factors such as circumstances, the involved parties, the scale of the damage that has been done and so on. Nowadays, this still exists in plenty of countries today, such as Saudi Arabia, China, the U.S.A. and Russia.

Emotions obviously play a large role, but since the judicial system, the constitution, the governance and so on is different between each country, each situation per defendant, per case, per country, always has to be measured before these extreme verdicts are carried out.

I suppose that I will remain a proponent for extreme cases, but there is no doubt that the subject remains difficult to talk about. It can be a scary thing on several levels, what if the convicted is falsely or unjustified sentenced? Or if you happen to be gay, or you carry a portion of drugs? Or the cycle never ends in some way?
