Five Nights at Freddy's 4

This sequel is the continuation of the downfall of Scott Cawthon's milk baby.

Not that it really matters for him as the commercial success and the fan base are well established by now, but as I previously said with part 3, although the franchise remains quite unique with the formula, it became saturated in my opinion.

Another entirely new direction is taken with Five Nights at Freddy's 4, as instead of taking place at a security office equipped with camera's at an abandoned restaurant with deadly animatronics, the location is now set at a child's bedroom.

On screen instructions will tell you what to do, but the sense of scaring danger is still highly present. There are also Atari based cut scenes that tell the story or the lore of series so far, and the fans like to theorize as to what it all means.

Admittedly, if you did not watch any Let's Plays, trailers and if you don't know what the heck you are supposed to do, the game has high tension. There's no Phone Guy giving you a verbal introduction this time.

There are only dark visions of open doors and closets with arguably less of an indication as to when the animatronics will jump scare you, and of course also other kinds of what the fuck moments that lead to them, such as flickering imagery, which seems to be present in all titles so far.

Five Nights at Freddy's 4 is more scary than the previous one and I appreciate the new setting and features, it's just that I don't like the rate at how fast Scott has developed and released them, hurting it's reputation.

Listening is your best defense for these nights, or else you will lose.
