The Horrors of Reality

Any kind of horror fiction is inspired by what has happened, is happening or will happen in reality. Car accidents, homicides, wars, diseases, natural disasters and drug overdoses are just few of the many ways we can get horrified about, depending on how they affect us.

Perhaps fear will never leave humanity, for as long as it is hardwired, and as long as new situations and uncharted territories such as the universe or eventually dying are obstacles towards the emotion, we will have to contain and endure it.

In modern times, in the 21st century, some specific kinds of horror either still exist or are developing. I would like to share and guide you through some of the trivial information I have encountered surrounding certain topics that are potentially scary to experience:

-Did you know that cannibalism in groups still exist in parts of the world such as Papua or Congo? Even North Korea is accused by reporters of having cannibalistic activity because there was a massive famine there in the 90's and it's still happening to this day.

-Did you know that certain countries are still partially stuck in the middle ages? Saudi Arabia is a prime example where the sharia law found in Islam is strictly enforced, and punishments can range from numerous amounts of whip slashes, to beheadings and stone killings.

-Did you know that the usage of child soldiers is still a major global problem in present time? It's happening in Yemen, Israel, Myanmar, Uganda and once again North Korea as well, as I saw it with my own eyes.

-Did you know that general gruesome torture, physically or psychologically is still happening mostly in underground communities or with prisoners of war? Citing authentic examples can be difficult to point out, but there isn't a reason why anyone wouldn't use the advantage of torture over someone else, if you don't consider human rights.

And there is much, much, much more to be discovered, like human and organ trafficking, modern slavery, etcetera. World peace might never happen on this planet, but at least we continue to face the numerous problems and either solve or deal with them in a different way, thus our ways of life get better, in some ways slowly, in others faster.
