The Grandmother

A young boy gets neglected and abused by his parents. He then plants some strange seeds and they grow into a grandmother, as some kind of compensation.

Maybe one of the last pictures I still really wanted to see from David Lynch, The Grandmother is one of his earliest shorts, and delivers with it’s weirdness and creepiness even today. Like most of his works, it can be interpreted in different ways as to what is happening.

It also reminds me of the days when I would watch some of the strangest flicks out there, and it just might re-ignite my interest into them, as it sometimes feels that I have seen the majority over them by now, having watched over 4.500 movies so far.

The Grandmother's soundtrack and it's strange, dark mood are effective and will draw you into it's abstract world of otherworldly features easily. It's like experiencing and eventually waking up from a nightmare, and you wonder what the hell just happened.

The esoteric semiotic imagery and the surrealism inspire imagination.
