Oculus
This independent film stood out from the rest, and has gained enough recognition and respect in order to be released in cinema's. Oculus is about 2 young adults attempting to recall back their horrible past of losing both mum and dad, and in the center of it all is a cursed mirror that tricks viewers and corrupts individuals into doing evil deeds.
Oculus started out cheesy, but the middle part of the story had some interesting buildup, mystery and a few scary scenes such as cutting a nail, a woman chained next to a bed and that's about it. Oculus also plays a lot with switching inbetween two time periods, which are the younger brother and sister period and their young adult counterparts.
In the first, we see how their past eventually ends horrible, and in the second, we see their attempt at understanding it all, and ultimately ending it. The movie in the last part switched too much inbetween the two time periods instantaneously, as some scenes felt not only confusing from a chronological perspective, but random too.
Next towards having a predictable story outcome, a poor ending and almost no memorable scenes, Oculus is only appreciated by me truly because of the production values regarding it's independent status.
