Tribute to James Rolfe

One of the most popular internet celebrities who is still heavily active and continues to be impressive to follow is James Rolfe, a filmmaker, gamer, editor, critic, reviewer, actor, comedian, storyteller and a few more filling roles.

After experimenting with his horror and artistic videos in his early age, James broke through fame with his well known persona called Angry Video Game Nerd, where he stereotypically portrays a maddened and frustrated informative gamer that agonizes and suffers from the most notorious, broken and infamous video games out there.

These AVGN episodes are usually successful for various reasons. The most important reason is that James is always trying to be creative with many of the episodes either by creating a story around it, introducing a guest character, using effective special effects or being quite ludicrous to experience.

It is this combination of informative knowledge surrounding the video games, consoles, accessoires and miscellaneous topics alongside the harsh comic effect and the creativity behind some of them that leave such a lasting appeal, as I have rewatched pretty much the whole show atleast 2 times.

Frustrations and criticism can come from any corners, and these include the controls, the graphics, the background, glitches, plot, design, difficulty, characters, game logic, weird scenarios and the gameplay itself. For some interesting reason, I find these to be cozy to watch, as I can recognize like many others what the AVGN is going through even though it is exaggerated.

The other great half of James to follow is his vast knowledge of cinema from any decade, and he also has a sophisticated and convincing opinion of many movies that just seems to let me click in agreement naturally.

One of his other main features or shows is called Monster Madness, which centers on reviewing all kinds of horror movies, from all of the Godzilla monster titles to the many sequels in the 80's to obscure and underrated flicks, he pretty much covers all of the interesting fields in horror except for foreign ones.

At Cinemassacre.com, all of his content is maintained and kept intact so that it is all neatly categorized even though new content is added regularily, making it harder to find older uploads unless you have memorized titles using the search engine.

James is also supported by what seems to be his best friend Mike Matei, and aside from running these main features alongside many other smaller ones, he takes care of his young family while also filming his very first main feature or directional debut starring the AVGN after dozens of earlier released shorter videos.

Not only is Rolfe polite, informative, humorous and inspiring to follow, his AVGN episodes would also make me forget about personal problems I had a few years ago when I watched them basically at prime time.

Watching his reviews, especially the video games is a cozy experience combined with humor and interesting trivia and history to delve into. Not only did James spark a boom of other internet celebrities in the sense of reviewing bad media, he also continues to be relevant and up to date with the cinema world while he intentionally only focuses on the retro generation of video games.

I wish I could meet him in real life and perhaps hang out for an evening or a day. It's too bad that my second planned trip towards America probably won't cover his current whereabouts, besides, he is such a workaholic, the chances are very slim. But it's alright, you've got my respect for your achievements.
