E3 2019
The times, they are changing.
With Sony as the biggest player being entirely absent from the show, the Electronic Entertainment Expo is changing even further, as other companies have starting producing and distributing digital presentations of their own.
With all of the press conferences done, my expectations before hand were low. I didn't even feel the need to guess, speculate, wish, dream, and so on. With so few surprises having happened, this had been going on for a few years.
A new Xbox console has been announced with specs alongside the PS5 for next year, but visual examples were missing. The industry also got their long awaited release dates for Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy VII Remake and before that, Death Stranding.
All 3 of them can be considered GOTY, having very high production values, ambition, and hype surrounding them. Other than that, there wasn't much else excitement for me, and some of the conferences such as Ubisoft and Bethesda were quite disappointing and to an extent, even laughable.
Elden Ring, the interesting collaboration between Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin, is From Software's largest project to date, spawning a new mythos and open world to undertake, while promising to keep RPG elements, methodical combat and difficulty intact.
Nintendo also managed to save an otherwise dull and predictable E3, with the amazing announcement of Banjo-Kazooie representing Rare in Super Smash Bros.Ultimate. That trailer was like King K.Rool before that, humorous, and many manly tears were shed.
Gameplay footage of staple series like Fire Emblem: Three Houses, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and even No More Heroes III alongside numerous announcements during the Nintendo Direct made it a very fine moment for the fans.
E3 2019 has come and go! Now it's time to game again. :)
