Humanity is Selfish

I was in the mood of craving wisdom, therefore I will give out a few thoughts drifting the mind:

-Mankind is too busy developing their own lives.

-Even the most social person does this in order to satisfy their own ego.

-Terrestrial life is a fact, but is it not almost probable that aliens exist out there?

-Actual relationships embody desire and the involved love thy partners, but their feelings are in reality experienced by themselves.

-We pursue our needs in the name of the self.

-Mutual interests are of course true, but first and foremost the beneficiary is individual.

Concisely, humanity is quite selfish.

Sorry Flok, you're gonna have to do better than this :P
Before you really start believing what you just wrote down, please notice how all these statements are easily debunked.

-Mankind is too busy developing their own lives.
(Too busy? For what? There are plenty of social programs and people doing things for another)

-Even the most social person does this in order to satisfy their own ego.
(But that's not the only reason. Plenty of people also just really do enjoy helping others)

-Terrestrial life is a fact, but is it not almost probable that aliens exist out there?
(For now, let's focus on those we're sure of sharing the universe with)

-Actual relationships embody desire and the involved love thy partners, but their feelings are in reality experienced by themselves.
(But we're pretty good at sharing our experiences with others. Most people seem to enjoy other people's happiness)

-We pursue our needs in the name of the self.
(Nah, too many examples of altruism going around)

-Mutual interests are of course true, but first and foremost the beneficiary is individual.
(Alrighty, but that's okay as long as there's also room for caring about others, which is often the case)

So like, maybe I'm interpreting what you're saying too harshly, but if you really want to tackle this intellectually, take heed of all the criticism that Schopenhauer, Nietzsche and Heidegger have received.

Hey Anonymous, thanks for your reply. I am a great amateur at philosophy haha, but have recently delved a large interest for it, having read Beyond Good & Evil: Prelude to the Philosophy of the Future as a start, where Friedrich Nietzsche is the author and Schopenhauer is mentioned several times.

By no means do I claim these statements as facts by any chance, but this is of course not the actual case. You said that they are easily debunked, and bringing up altruism is a good argument.

However, I think that we are fundamentally acting and reacting around our environments in the first place. Of course we work together, have fun together and communicate together. But what motivates us in the first place? Wouldn't that be ourselves?

Even if you just found out for example that your sister is soon gonna get married, and you said that you are happy for her, even so, saying that, you feel good inside.

Notice how I said that we are all "quite" selfish. I meant not to rule out altruism by any case, but I think that selfishness is wider than it's opposite.

And perhaps they both go hand in hand in most if not all cases.
